The Dallas Branch of AAUW has established a "Great Decisions" discussion group that meets once per month to discuss a topic relevant to current events and foreign policy.
Great Decisions is a program that was developed by the Foreign Policy Association and is designed to encourage Americans to stay informed about and discuss foreign policy issues of importance to the United States. Members purchase a Great Decisions book published by the Foreign Policy Association that is intended to guide the monthly discussions.
The topics for 2008 are:
· Iraq End-Game
· European Union at 50
· Talking to Our Enemies
· Russia
· U.S. Defense & Security Policy
· Latin America: Shift to the Left?
· U.S.-China Trade Policy
· Private Philanthropy
The program offers group members an opportunity to complete and submit an opinion ballot for each of the topics to the Foreign Policy Association, which in turn compiles the information and reports the results in the "National Opinion Ballot Report."
